Group riding with Taw Velo
Taw Velo has a range of regular club rides with different speeds, distances and routes. New members are always welcome. Membership of the club is required to take part in the club rides but you are more than welcome to come and meet us first and try a few rides before you join. Please see our Membership page for details. The following rides take place regularly, any changes are posted on the Clubs Facebook page.
Sunday Social Ride
We meet at 0900 at The Bike Shed Café, The Square, Barnstaple for a 0915 departure. As a guide, we tend to do rides of 40 to 50 miles with an average speed of 13 to 15 mph and decide where to go on the day. Sometimes the group will split depending on the numbers or if some members want to ride at a different pace. We always stop for coffee and cake en route!
The first Sunday of each month is an introductory ride where the route is predetermined and we invite new riders to try this ride first. This will be a great taster for you and a more experienced club member will make sure you are never left behind.
Saturday "The Tea And Cake Ride"
Originally started by the parents of our youth riders and self named "The tea and cake" our Saturday morning ride is a leisurely 20-30 miles around North Devon. Anyone is welcome to come along but you will be asked to join the club for regular attendance.
The pace is kept low and chatting is encouraged. Cake is a must but you can choose between tea, coffee and hot chocolate! The route changes each week but starts at Petroc College at 0930 and returns to the Bike Shed Cafe around 1130.
Tuesday Training Ride
We meet at 1815 at The Bike Shed Café, The Square, Barnstaple. This ride is for more experienced riders and has a faster pace, covering about 30 to 40 miles, with an average speed of 18 to 22 mph + . A good chance to practice group riding skills with some sprints in between for the competitive among you!
Tuesday Ladies only Ride
We meet at 18:15 at The Bike Shed Café, The Square, Barnstaple. This ride is led by our woman's riding representative Cherylyn Gazeley and is aimed at bringing ladies into the club in a safe and inclusive environment. The pace is set by the slowest rider and our more experienced riders will be happy to provide any friendly advice as you ride around.
So we can predict numbers please contact Cherylyn beforehand so she can meet you and welcome you to the ride.
See our women's cycling page for more information
Thursday Training Ride
We meet at 18:15 at The Bike Shed Café, The Square, Barnstaple. This ride is generally about 30 miles with an average speed of 17 to 18 mph. A brisk training ride, but a more relaxed than the Tuesday evening ride.
This is also a no drop ride so you wont be left stranded but will be expected to train to keep up over time.
The typical route is the "TV Thursday Westward Ho! loop"
